Memory foam is built for pressure relief: it softens under body heat and weight, cradling shoulders and hips rather than pushing back. Many side sleepers find that contouring feel comfortable.

The trade-off is responsiveness: memory foam has more 'sink' and less bounce than a spring mattress, which some back and stomach sleepers find too soft.
