A divan bed is a bed frame built on a solid, upholstered base rather than a slatted frame — the base itself provides the support, and can include drawer storage. It's typically paired with a matching or complementary headboard, sold separately or together.

Luxury Beds UK: Buying Guide

What Is a Divan Bed, and Is It Worth Buying?

A divan bed pairs an upholstered, load-bearing base with a separate mattress, giving a firmer, more even platform than a slatted frame. Unlike most other bed types, the base itself can also include built-in drawer storage.

For UK bedrooms, divans are worth buying if you want a straightforward, long-lasting setup: no flat-pack assembly beyond the headboard, a wide choice of fabric and drawer configurations, and compatibility with almost any mattress type.

Every Hartley Dreams divan is made to order by our manufacturing partner and backed by our 12-month guarantee against structural defects.
